Back in 2004, the fashion was to have sleek, straight long hair – neat and groomed. As the proud owner of some pretty uncontrollable curls, I couldn't find anything in the high street to put in my hair, so started making things instead. Having been stopped in the street several times and asked where my hair "things" were from, I decided to go to evening school to build on my creative skills.
Since then, I've learned the traditional art of millinery, have carried out many years' worth of courses in wire work, and have spent several years training with the wonderful Rose Cory, MBE; former Milliner by Royal Appointment to the late Queen Mother.
In 2006 I launched Katie Vale Designs. I’ve now designed and handmade hundreds of hats in my studio. You can be sure that your hat is made with thought and care as I really love what I do and am passionate about making hats which make my clients happy.
When I'm not making award-winning hats for clients around the world, I am probably on social media. I've built up my business single-handedly, from sewing at my kitchen table to running a thriving business from my studio and shop. This growth is partly down to how I've used social media, and now I can help you grow your business too, through #TheSocialMilliner.
